World's deepest underground hotel suite in Sweeden

It is located 155 metres underground in a disused silver mine in the Swedish city of Sala.

The Sala silver mine’s underground suite is a cavernous room for two which guests descend to through a maze of underground tunnels and caverns.

Right next to the suite is a large banquet hall which serves meals and can also be hired for functions.

And for guests who don’t want to miss any of Sweden’s picturesque scenery, the mine is also home to a series of stunning underground lakes.

The lakes are currently being explored and mapped by a team of professional cave divers in the hope that they will one day be open to the public for cave diving.

At 155 metres the mine is a chilly two degrees centigrade all year round, but the suite and banquet hall are both heated to a comfortable temperature for guests.

Mobile phones won’t work at this depth so once you’ve settled in your only contact with the world above is through an intercom system which is manned by staff 24 hours a day.

A night in the suite costs 1,875 Swedish Kronor (AUD$287) per person and includes breakfast plus a guided tour of the mine.

The Sala silver mine is believed to have begun operating in the middle ages.

The silver mining operation expanded through the 16th century and lasted until the early 1900s.

For a time it was the biggest silver-producing mine in Sweden.

The city of Sala is located 120 kilometres from Stockholm.
